Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Haddam-Killingworth's Fourth in Last Five Outings

While Haddam-Killingworth's victory against Valley Regional wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted against the Warriors since May 10, 2021.

Nobody will forget Emma Giaccone's heroic performance anytime soon (especially Valley Regional's batters): she turned in a perfect game. Giaccone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Haddam-Killingworth's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hazel Doyle, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Haddam-Killingworth is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
