Basketball Recap: Seton Catholic Central Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Seton Catholic Central hadn't done well against Johnson City recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Seton Catholic Central Saints walked away with a 66-53 victory over the Johnson City Wildcats. Given the Saints' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Wildcats are ranked 360th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Seton Catholic Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brian Dempsey led the charge by going 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Dempsey is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Allan Eagles, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Seton Catholic Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

The win (which was Seton Catholic Central's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.6 points. As for Johnson City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coincidentally, Seton Catholic Central and Johnson City will both be playing Binghamton the next time they take the court. Seton Catholic Central will head out to face Binghamton at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, while Johnson City will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
