Softball Recap: Auburn Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Auburn had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Athens on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Meena Taylor's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Addison Wheatley and Taylor Patterson did most of the damage at the plate: Wheatley scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Patterson scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Addison Jones also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Auburn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens only posted a batting average of .048.

Auburn's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Athens, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.
