Volleyball Recap: Golden Valley's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Golden Valley suffered their biggest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against the Merced Bears, falling 3-0. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

While Golden Valley ultimately came up short, they really made Merced work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-12, 25-13.

When it comes to explaining why Golden Valley lost, don't look at Marc Her. Despite the final result, he had 16 assists and eight digs. Her has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more assists the last 12 times he's played.

Merced can attribute much of their success to Tuger Moua, who had 20 assists and three digs. Pete Filice also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Golden Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-14. As for Merced, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season.

Golden Valley has already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Atwater on the 10th. As for Merced, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Buhach Colony on the 10th.
