Football Game Preview: Jefferson Mustangs vs. Highlands Owls

The Jefferson Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Highlands Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Highlands took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Jefferson, who comes in off a win.

Jefferson took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They strolled past Burbank with points to spare, taking the game 42-25. Considering the Mustangs' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aiden Urdiales, who threw for 95 yards and a pair of TDs. Michael Bejar handled things on the ground, rushing for 99 yards.

Jefferson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Jefferson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dylan Caffey, Julian Cervera, Aaron Garcia, and Bejar picked up one apiece. Garcia is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Highlands and Burbank have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Owls received a blow as they fell 29-15 to the Bulldogs. The Owls have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Highlands' defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Jefferson, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Jefferson against Highlands in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 31-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
