It was fun while it lasted, but Crystal Springs Uplands's undefeated season came to an end after five games on Saturday. They fell just short of the Salinas Cowboys by a score of 1-0. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Gryphons came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Cowboys are ranked 300th).

Having lost for the first time this season, Crystal Springs Uplands fell to 5-1. As for Salinas, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1-3.

Crystal Springs Uplands will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on King's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. King's Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Crystal Springs Uplands surely won't give up without a fight. Salinas also won't see the pitch for a while: their next contest is against Palma at 5:45 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
