Baseball Recap: High Tech NC Starts off Right with Win over Calipatria

High Tech NC gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Calipatria Hornets by a score of 7-3. This was payback for the Raptor, who suffered a 16-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Dylan Shelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Matthew Larkins and Cole Sakowski did most of the damage at the plate: Larkins scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Sakowski scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Ethan Hoglen was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Coming up, High Tech NC is headed away from home for the first time to take on St. Joseph Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calipatria has already played their next contest (against Mountain Empire), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
