Baseball Recap: Eldorado Comes Up Short

Eldorado had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-14 to make it five. They came up short against the Edwards County Lions, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on Tuesday.

Eldorado saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Pennell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Edwards County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The result was nothing new for Edwards County, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Edwards County's side, Jackson Hensley made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Hensley has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cash Conner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Evan Rhodes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Eldorado will head out on the road to face off against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Fighting Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.77 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Edwards County, they will be playing at home against Flora at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
