Baseball Recap: Springfield Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Springfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Marple Newtown Fightin Tigers 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Fightin Tigers back in March, they had to take a 7-2 defeat.

The team relied heavily on Sean O'Reilly, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Scheetz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Springfield's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Marple Newtown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Coincidentally, Springfield and Marple Newtown will both be playing Penncrest the next time they take the field. The Cougars will host the Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, while the Fightin Tigers will host them at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
