Basketball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short at Home Against Compton

Centennial unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt an 81-45 defeat at the hands of the Compton Tarbabes on Wednesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it nine in a row.

Compton found their leader in freshman Suavius Denem, who went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Goodlow, who shot 58% from the field to rack up 18 points.

Compton has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Centennial and Hawkins will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. As for Compton, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northview at 7:00 p.m. on December 3.
