NorthWood hasn't had much luck against Mishawaka recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will welcome the Cavemen at 5:30 p.m. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
NorthWood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on West Noble with a sharp 15-1 win on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Ana Beachy made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Sears, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taryn Marcum, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
NorthWood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Mishawaka didn't have quite enough to beat Tippecanoe Valley on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The match marked the Cavemen's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Mishawaka saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly St. Clair, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Karmen Frazier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
NorthWood now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mishawaka, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
NorthWood's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mishawaka, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will NorthWood continue to outrun the ball?
