Baseball Game Preview: Edinburgh Lancers vs. Oldenburg Academy Twisters

The Edinburgh Lancers will face off against the Oldenburg Academy Twisters at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Edinburgh is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Waldron on Monday. They fell just short of the Mohawks by a score of 3-1. The Lancers have struggled against the Mohawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Edinburgh saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avynn Whitaker, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Oldenburg Academy and Union County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Twisters came up short against the Patriots on Monday, falling 9-3.

Zach Hoff made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Oldenburg Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Juston Dietz, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Oldenburg Academy dropped their record down to 8-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Edinburgh, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.

Edinburgh suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Oldenburg Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
