Preview: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Walden Grove Red Wolves
Douglas is 10-0 against Walden Grove since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Douglas Bulldogs will look to defend their home court against the Walden Grove Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Douglas has four straight victories, Walden Grove has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Winning is just a little bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 20% better than the opposition, a fact Douglas proved on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-46 win over Sahuarita.
Francia Rubio was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Keyra Espinosa, who scored 19 points.
Walden Grove suffered their biggest defeat since November 20, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Rio Rico 80-21. While losing is never fun, Walden Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Rio Rico is ranked 52nd).
Douglas is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Walden Grove, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-17.
