Softball Recap: Ponce De Leon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Graceville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ponce De Leon). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Graceville Tigers a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Clara Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ponce De Leon got a big performance out of Kiyann Alford, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Alford has posted since back in April of 2024. Nikki Byrd was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Ponce De Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ponce De Leon moved to 6-10 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Graceville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponce De Leon will take on Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Graceville, they will challenge Daleville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
