Football Recap: Wesleyan Skates Past King's Ridge Christian with Ease

Wesleyan extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 6-2. They breezed past the King's Ridge Christian Tigers to the tune of 49-7. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 42 points or more this season.

Maddox Gartland produced another solid effort rushing for 180 yards and two scores while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Those two rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Wesleyan also got a significant boost from Kyle Baxley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wesleyan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

As for King's Ridge Christian, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 6-2. Having soared to a lofty 44 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite the loss, King's Ridge Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tucker Markakis rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Wesleyan and King's Ridge Christian will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Wolves see the field they'll take on Fellowship Christian at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. As for King's Ridge Christian, their break will end when they face Mount Vernon at 3:45 p.m. on the 24th.
