Softball Recap: Hawkins Hawks vs. Big Sandy Wildcats
Hawkins won against Grace Community last Friday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Hawkins Hawks beat the Big Sandy Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-3. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Kalyn Ellison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Alana Gipson and Taetum Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Gipson scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-3, while Smith went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That's the most runs Gipson has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaci Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
