Baseball Game Preview: San Marcos Royals vs. St. Bonaventure Seraphs

The San Marcos Royals will square off against the St. Bonaventure Seraphs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, San Marcos turned things around against Buena on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs.

San Marcos got a great performance from Ethan Frost-Stokhaug as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Frost-Stokhaug has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Patrick Foster, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of San Marcos' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 3-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Herbert, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure hadn't done well against Grace recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Seraphs were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Lancers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Seraphs have posted against the Lancers since April 18, 2019.

Joseph Martinez was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Seamus Sipe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

St. Bonaventure kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

San Marcos' win bumped their record up to 7-19. As for St. Bonaventure, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
