Recap: Unioto Shermans vs. Olentangy Braves

It was a good run, but the Unioto Shermans unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Olentangy by a score of 65-63. While losing is never fun, Unioto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Olentangy is ranked second).

Unioto's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mya Hamilton, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Milee Smith who scored 22 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That was a full 39.7% of Unioto's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amelia Uhrig, who scored five points along with six steals.

Sydney Mobley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds for Olentangy. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mobley has scored all season. Chayla Rankin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.

Unioto's defeat ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2. As for Olentangy, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0.

Unioto won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Huntington at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th. Huntington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Olentangy, they will head out on the road to take on Marysville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Marysville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Olentangy likes a good challenge.
