Baseball Recap: Manteca Victorious

Manteca proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the East Union Lancers. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 14-1 win on Thursday.

Jimmy Burns got the start for Manteca and what a start it was: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Burns has posted since back in February. Nate Slikker picked up the save, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Manteca's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brody Carabello, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Manteca is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Union, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-8.

Manteca does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Union, they have already played their next game, a 13-6 victory against Mountain House on the 27th.
