League recap: Hickory Ridge climbs in state rankings

3A Conference 7 recap October 22, 2013

Hickory Ridge scaled the state rankings by moving to 182 from 210 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Conference 7. The Ragin' Bulls climbed the ranks as a result of topping Northwest Cabarrus 49-21.

West Rowan was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Falcons triumphed over East Rowan 34-17.

5-foot-10 quarterback Aaron Kennerly of South Rowan is the league leader in passing yards this season with 926. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Seth Wyrick. The East Rowan star has 28 catches for 442 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Concord takes on West Rowan. The Spiders' offense has scored 312 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Falcons have allowed only 142 on the year.

An important game coming up in 3A Conference 7 this week will be when Concord takes on West Rowan. Glen Padgett's team is currently in first, while the Falcons are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Spiders take on West Rowan. Concord has allowed 162 points this season, while the Falcons have given up 142. The Spiders allowed 8 points last week as they topped Carson.

Concord extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Cougars, 35-8. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
