Baseball Recap: Leake Central Gators vs. Union Yellowjackets

Leake Central had lost 18 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-13 to make it 19. They came up short against the Union Yellowjackets, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Gators couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Union, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-8. Considering they have won nine contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Union's part, Jackson Flake and Rafe Manning made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Flake kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Manning struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Flake has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Flake got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, while Manning went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Manning has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Austin Lee was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kooper Fultz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Leake Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Union, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 15-4 loss against Hamilton on the 18th.
