Softball Recap: West Valley Comes Up Short

West Valley's last matchup with University Prep could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Eagles lost 15-5 to the Panthers. The Eagles have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Aubree Wertz put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and nine unearned) runs off ten hits. Wertz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cadynce Gippner and Maddy Pemberton did some serious damage despite the final result: Gippner went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Pemberton went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Gippner has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Kylee Jaramillo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

West Valley's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for University Prep, they now have a winning record of 11-10-2.

Looking ahead, West Valley will challenge Anderson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Cubs at the right time seeing as the Cubs are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for University Prep, they will host Central Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
