The Damien Spartans will challenge the Charter Oak Chargers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither Damien nor Charter Oak posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Damien is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since April 2, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 16-2 to Santa Margarita. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Damien got a good showing from Andrew Angell, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Damien saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Boyle, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That hit was Boyle's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Charter Oak never let their opponents score on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Upland. The win was some much needed relief for the Chargers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Marcus Reese tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Charter Oak is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jorge Aceves, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Charter Oak's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Damien, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Damien was able to grind out a solid win over Charter Oak when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 5-2. Does Damien have another victory up their sleeve, or will Charter Oak turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
