Kenton quarterback Grant Sherman leads the nation in passing yardage after throwing for 451 yards last week.
Grant Sherman of Kenton (Ohio) took over the lead as the nation's top passing yardage leader last week as he threw for 451 yards and six touchdowns in a 46-42 win over Celina. His effort highlights this week's MaxPreps National Football Stat Stars.
Sherman has thrown for 3,283 yards and 41 touchdowns. Both stats top the
MaxPreps leaderboard.
Meanwhile his top target, Justin Sawmiller, caught 19 passes for 276 yards to vault him into the No. 1 spot for receiving yardage and receptions. He leads the nation with 107 catches for 1,622 yards. He is 36 catches away from the state record of 143 by Max Morrison, also of Kenton.
Other notables this week include Tucker Israel of Lake Nona, who threw for 518 yards and seven touchdowns. Israel gained notoriety last year by throwing 10 touchdowns in a single game.
Then there's Keynan Huguley of Thornton (Colo.), who became just the fourth player in Colorado history to rush for more than 500 yards in a game with 501 in a 62-57 loss to Northglenn.
Stat stars are based on statistics reported to MaxPreps by the coaches.
