Softball Recap: Desert Drops Season-High Score on Frazier Mountain

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert). They blew past the Frazier Mountain Falcons 25-8 on Monday. Considering the Scorpions have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Alayna Phillips made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and seven RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachel Hewes, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Kesler, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Desert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Desert has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Frazier Mountain, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert will take on California City at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scorpions will need to watch out since the Ravens have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Frazier Mountain, they will challenge Rosamond at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Roadrunners have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
