Football Game Preview: Hopkins Vikings vs. Hackett Catholic Prep Fighting Irish

The Hopkins Vikings will head out to square off against the Hackett Catholic Prep Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Hopkins 14.9, Hackett Catholic Prep 9.4) so any points scored will be well earned.

Hopkins took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They snuck past Fruitport with a 12-7 win.

Meanwhile, Hackett Catholic Prep entered their tilt with Schoolcraft on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 25-20 W against the Eagles.

Hopkins better keep an eye on Jackson Herder. He was instrumental in Hackett Catholic Prep's win, throwing for 348 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. Those 348 passing yards gave Herder a new career-high.

Hackett Catholic Prep didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Schoolcraft to a completion percentage of just 43.8%. Given Herder's standout performance, it's clear the Eagles' secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Hopkins now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Hackett Catholic Prep, their record is now 7-2.

Hopkins lost to Hackett Catholic Prep on the road by a decisive 36-20 margin in their previous meeting back in November of 2019. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
