Basketball Recap: La Puente Comes Up Short

La Puente was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 77-50 loss at the hands of the Whittier Christian Heralds. The game was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Warriors struggled afterwards.

Whittier Christian found their leader in sophomore Leland Carrido, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Carrido also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Whittier Christian is 5-1 when he posts at least three steals, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nori Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

La Puente now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Whittier Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

La Puente won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South El Monte at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Whittier Christian, they will have a chance to keep the ball rolling against Buena Park at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday following yesterday's win. Buena Park is coming into the match with six straight wins at home, so Whittier Christian will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
