After flying high against the Richmond City School of the Arts Bulldogs last Tuesday, the Powhatan Indians came back down to earth. Powhatan fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 43-41. If Powhatan was looking for revenge after losing 54-51 to them when the teams met on Thursday, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clover Hill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brooke Elam, who scored 18 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elam has scored all season. Olivia Kraft was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Powhatan's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.6 points per game. As for Clover Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Powhatan will face off against the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hanover presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Indians in Virginia (the Hawks are ranked 51st, while the Indians are ranked 240th). As for Clover Hill, they will head out on the road to face off against the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cosby is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
