Baseball Recap: Granby Takes a Loss

Granby had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it 12. They lost 10-0 to the Wahconah Regional Warriors. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

As for Wahconah Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Wahconah Regional, who have now won four matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Wahconah Regional's part, Sam McLaughlin was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. McLaughlin has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Wahconah Regional: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Wahconah Regional let Colby Robb and Carter Drake run wild. Robb got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs, while Drake got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Those three runs gave Robb a new career-high.

Coming up, Granby will be playing at home against Palmer at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wahconah Regional, they will head out on the road to take on Greenfield at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Green Wave's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
