Softball Game Preview: Channel Islands Raiders vs. Hueneme Vikings

Channel Islands hasn't had much luck against Hueneme recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Channel Islands Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Hueneme Vikings at 3:00 p.m.

Channel Islands is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Fillmore, falling 13-0. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly 13 runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hueneme). They skirted past Calabasas 11-9. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jaucelynn Ayala was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Hueneme let Savannah Magallon and Jacquelynn Uribe run wild. Magallon went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Uribe scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Magallon posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Marina Diaz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Hueneme always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Channel Islands' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hueneme, their record is now 2-3.

Channel Islands suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Hueneme when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Channel Islands avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
