Preview: Benjamin Mustangs vs. Chillicothe Eagles
The Benjamin Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chillicothe Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Benjamin has 23 straight victories, Chillicothe has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Benjamin stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 69-6 win over Harrold on the road. Benjamin's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Grayson Rigdon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 203 yards and four touchdowns on only five carries. Rigdon hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Hayes, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Chillicothe fell victim to Paducah's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 46-0 loss at the hands of the Dragons. While losing is never fun, Chillicothe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Paducah is ranked 71st).
Benjamin's victory was their 23rd straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 54.26 points. As for Chillicothe, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Benjamin against Chillicothe when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 40-0 victory. Will Benjamin repeat their success, or does Chillicothe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
