The Southern Choctaw Indians will square off against the Choctaw County Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southern Choctaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

Southern Choctaw is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 30 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Leroy on Tuesday. They lost 8-1 to the Bears. The contest marked the Indians' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Choctaw County). Everything went their way against Marengo on Tuesday as Choctaw County made off with a 16-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Kamya Straight was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh Palmer, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Choctaw County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southern Choctaw's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Choctaw County, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-8.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southern Choctaw has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Choctaw County struggles in that department as they've averaged .547. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southern Choctaw took their victory against Choctaw County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southern Choctaw since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
