Baseball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Tomales' Winning Streak

Tomales dropped their record down to 8-8 on Friday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 8-3 to the Sonoma Academy Coyotes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

Tomales saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jorge Lopez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

As for Sonoma Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

On Sonoma Academy's side, Victor Jennings tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brodie Castaneda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Charlie Mutz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Tomales will head out on the road to challenge Victory Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Sonoma Academy, they will welcome Calistoga at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
