Basketball Game Preview: Delta Eagles vs. Wapahani Raiders

The Delta Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Wapahani Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Delta is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: New Palestine, who was ranked 20th at the time (Delta was ranked 24th). Delta fell 69-56 to New Palestine on Saturday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Wapahani put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging an 85-41 win over Blue River Valley. The Raiders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Wapahani's win came from a few key players Delta will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nate Luce, who went 9 of 15 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points along with six rebounds and five assists. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Zickgraf, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.

Wapahani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Wapahani's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for Delta, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.

Delta was able to grind out a solid win over Wapahani in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 57-44. Does Delta have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wapahani turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
