Softball Game Preview: Ovid-Elsie Marauders vs. Durand Railroaders

The Ovid-Elsie Marauders are taking a road trip to take on the Durand Railroaders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Ovid-Elsie's last matchup with Birch Run could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Monday. The Marauders lost 16-1 to the Panthers.

Ovid-Elsie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley McClung, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that McClung has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Durand fell victim to Swan Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 15-0.

Durand has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Ovid-Elsie, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ovid-Elsie has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Durand struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Ovid-Elsie took their win against Durand when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Do the Marauders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Railroaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
