Softball Game Preview: East Chambers Buccaneers vs. Kirbyville Wildcats

East Chambers is 0-10 against Kirbyville since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Buccaneers will welcome the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (East Chambers 3.7, Kirbyville 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

East Chambers fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Anahuac on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5.

Hailey Hjelle spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Marley Morgan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Kirbyville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 13 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jules Carrell was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Simmos, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Kirbyville's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for East Chambers, their loss dropped their record down to 17-11-1.
