Soccer Game Preview: Rio Mesa vs. Oxnard

Rio Mesa is 0-8-2 against Oxnard since January of 2020 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rio Mesa Spartans will host the Oxnard Yellowjackets at 6:45 p.m. Rio Mesa is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.2 goals per game this season.

On Monday, Rio Mesa sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Dos Pueblos. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Spartans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Chargers are ranked 151st).

Rio Mesa hit Dos Pueblos with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Rodrigo Ambriz, David Marmolejo, and Aiden Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Oxnard's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They and Pacifica finished up on equal footing with a 0-0 draw. The result kept the Yellowjackets happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 26, 2024.

Rio Mesa pushed their record up to 14-11 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored ten goals over those three contests. With that draw, Oxnard's record moves to 12-4-4.
