Basketball Recap: Southern Takes a Loss

Southern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the LKY Saints 60-30. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 58-44 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

LKY was led to victory by Hannah Simmon and Courtney Simmon. Hannah went 13 for 27 on her way to 30 points, while Courtney dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Hannah's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hayley Mattingly, who posted seven points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Southern's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for LKY, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Southern won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fairdale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for LKY, they will take on Bluegrass United at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. LKY is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
