Baseball Recap: Winthrop Ramblers vs. Dirigo Cougars
Winthrop fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Dirigo on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Ramblers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Carter Collin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Trent Collin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles were his first of the season. Braden Branagan was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Dirigo, they pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
