Preview: Burwell Longhorns vs. Arcadia/Loup City Rebels
The Burwell Longhorns will be playing at home against the Arcadia/Loup City Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Burwell struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (Central Valley had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Burwell took a 38-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central Valley. Burwell has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Burwell had strong showings from Kaitlyn Hughes, who scored four points along with five assists and four steals, and Brookelyn Gideon, who scored 12 points. Hughes hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Mann, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Burwell struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Arcadia/Loup City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 42-18 defeat at the hands of Doniphan-Trumbull. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Arcadia/Loup City has suffered since December 1, 2023.
Burwell has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Arcadia/Loup City, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road.
