Softball Recap: Chilton Pirates vs. Granger Lions
Chilton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 31-0 to the Granger Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 39-0 back in March.
As for Granger, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9-1. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
For Granger's part, Arianna Herrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Herrera has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abi Crouch, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Izzy Tavernier, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one double.
Chilton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Granger, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-9 defeat against Holland on the 17th.
