Softball Recap: Burlingame Bearcats vs. Wabaunsee Chargers
Burlingame extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 22-4 to the Wabaunsee Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 9-2 loss back in March.
As for Wabaunsee, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
For Wabaunsee's part, Reese Michaelis made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Michaelis has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Kendra Conrad was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Meredith Denton was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burlingame will challenge Horton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wabaunsee, they will be playing at home against Chase County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.88 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
