Basketball Recap: Carrboro Takes a Loss

Carrboro lost against South Granville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Carrboro Jaguars received a blow as they fell 75-60 to the South Granville Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while the Vikings are ranked 122nd).

When it comes to explaining why Carrboro lost, don't look at Bakari Watkins. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. What's more, Watkins also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was DB Hamlett, who went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Carrboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

It was another big night for KJ Terry, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds for South Granville. With that strong performance, Terry is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Hicks, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points along with six boards and three steals.

Carrboro's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for South Granville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Carrboro will welcome Durham School of the Arts at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Carrboro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season. As for South Granville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-41 victory against Granville Central on the 9th.
