Preview: Leesville Wampus Cats vs. St. Martinville Tigers

The Leesville Wampus Cats will be playing at home against the St. Martinville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Leesville waltzed into Friday's contest with four straight wins but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 53-32 margin over Rayne. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

It was another big night for Xavier Ford, who rushed for 316 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Ford hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Farley, who picked up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

St. Martinville can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 67-39 win over Crowley on the road. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

St. Martinville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Steven Blanco led the charge by rushing for 355 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry. Blanco's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Kaden Zenon was another key contributor, rushing for 151 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.

Leesville's win pushed their record up to 7-3, while St. Martinville's bumped their own up to the opposite: 3-7.

Leesville didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against St. Martinville in their previous meeting back in November of 2018, but they still walked away with a 53-49 victory. Will Leesville repeat their success, or does St. Martinville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
