Softball Game Preview: Chaney Cowboys vs. Newton Falls Tigers

For the second straight game, Chaney will face off against Newton Falls. The Cowboys will challenge the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaney has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Chaney lost 19-6 to Newton Falls on Thursday. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Newton Falls' part, Kylee Lance made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Lance was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abby Wolford and Kirra Howard did most of the damage at the plate: Wolford scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Howard scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Wolford has posted since back in April of 2024. Hanna Wright also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Newton Falls always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Newton Falls' record now sits at 2-3-1. As for Chaney, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
