Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Champaign Central's Winning Streak

Champaign Central lost against Centralia back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Champaign Central Maroons fell just short of the Centralia Orphans by a score of 56-54. While losing is never fun, the Maroons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Orphans are ranked 23rd).

When it comes to explaining why Champaign Central lost, don't look at Chris Bush. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 16 on his way to 22 points. Bush's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Swanson, who posted six points.

With the defeat, Champaign Central broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-7. As for Centralia, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

Champaign Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-51 loss against Teutopolis on the 25th. Centralia has also already played their next game, a 44-32 victory against Mt. Vernon on the 25th.
