Baseball Recap: Chireno Comes Up Short

If Chireno was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of San Augustine last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Chireno fell just short of the Woden Eagles by a score of 9-8 on Friday. The Owls were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Chireno saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Nash, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave Nash a new career-high. Eli Jeffcoat also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Chireno's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-8-2. As for Woden, their record now sits at 9-4.

Looking ahead, Chireno will welcome Garrison at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garrison's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Chireno's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Woden, they will venture away from home to square off against Timpson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Woden 3.8, Timpson 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
