Softball Game Preview: County Line Indians vs. Greenland Pirates

The County Line Indians will head out to challenge the Greenland Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. County Line will be strutting in after a win while Greenland will be coming in after a loss.

On Thursday, County Line got the win against Western Yell County by a conclusive 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Virginia Besier made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tori Fortenberry, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Reames, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Greenland fell victim to Lincoln and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 12-0 to the Wolves. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered since March 27, 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for County Line and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Greenland, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4.

County Line suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Greenland in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
