Baseball Recap: Shirley Find Success

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Shirley brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against the Calico Rock Pirates on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Blue Devils: when they faced off against the Pirates last Tuesday, they had to take a 16-15 loss.

Brody Bradford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eli Brensnahan was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Louis Taylor was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Shirley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Shirley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Calico Rock, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Shirley will challenge rival Norfork at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Calico Rock is set to face off against their familiar foe Concord at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
