Basketball Recap: Ty Mitchell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat University

Hamilton won the last time they faced University and things went their way on Friday too. The Hamilton Yankees walked away with a 58-47 win over the University Wildcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yankees.

Hamilton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ty Mitchell led the charge by going 6-for-15 to rack up 13 points along with six assists and four steals. That's the most points Mitchell has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michael Gooden, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Hamilton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

University lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jonah Hansen, who went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points and five boards. Syrus Azarbarzin was another key player, putting up seven points and six steals.

Hamilton's record now sits at 12-16. As for University, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.
